Brian Simmons is the Managing Partner and one of three co-founders of CHS Capital LLC, a Chicago-based private equity firm with 23 years of experience investing in the middle market. Formerly known as Code Hennessy & Simmons LLC, CHS Capital targets well-managed companies with enterprise values between $75 - $500 million and partners with management teams to focus on accelerating growth, enhancing capabilities and resources and positioning companies for attractive exits. CHS has specialized expertise in the Consumer & Business Services; Distribution; and Industrial, Infrastructure & Energy sectors and has completed 74 platform investments and 261 add-on investments. Founded in 1988, CHS has formed five private equity funds and has $2.5 billion of committed capital in active investment funds.

As Managing Partner and one of three members of the CHS Management Committee, Brian is actively involved in all aspects of CHS’ business including investment origination and approval, investment management, firm management and fundraising. He serves as chairman of the board or a director of numerous CHS portfolio companies.

Prior to founding CHS Capital, Brian was a Vice President with Citicorp’s Leveraged Capital Group and an officer of Mellon Bank Corporation. He is a graduate of Cornell University. Brian is Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Public Education Fund and serves on the board of the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Latin School of Chicago, and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation. He is a member of the visiting committee of the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. He and his wife Julie live in Chicago and have two teenage children.
