Working to Quantify the Economic Impact of Illinois-based Venture & Private Equity Funds

June 10, 2015

As you may know, in April, Rep. Christian Mitchell introduced a bill that proposed an Illinois tax on management fees for some investment firms.  While that specific bill appears dead, the risk continues that our industry will be taxed to address the tremendous budget crunch faced by the State.

In order to provide better information on the importance of our industry, IVCA is conducting an Economic Impact study of our industry on the local economy.  With these results we plan to quantify the non-payroll direct and secondary expenses that venture and private equity firms incurred during calendar year 2014.

These expenses include all office expenses, professional service expenses and any travel or event expenses. We will send out a separate survey to capture the economic impact of any Illinois portfolio companies.

This information will only be released in aggregate - representing the economic impact of our industry - and will never be released or shared for any individual respondent.

We are asking that every Illinois-based venture and private equity fund CFO complete this survey.  The survey itself is brief and, with expense reports in-hand, should take fewer than 10 minutes.  If you receive a survey, please complete or forward to the appropriate person at your firm who can best provide the data.

The link to the survey can also be found here.

Thank you for supporting this effort.  We will of course share the aggregate results so that each of you can advocate for our industry.
