IVCA Preview: Grant Levitan, Senior Partner at RHR International, on Upcoming IVCA Educational Luncheon ‘Talent, Culture, Chemistry: The Right Team at the Right Time’

August 30, 2017

The IVCA continues its commitment to evolving the knowledge of their membership by offering another Educational Luncheon on September 7th, 2017. In a subject that is near and dear to all businesses and firms, the topic will be Talent, Culture, Chemistry: The Right Team at the Right Time.” The Luncheon will be moderated by Grant Levitan, Senior Partner at RHR International, the firm that is sponsoring the event. The expert panelists will be Michael Liang (Partner, Baird Capital), Melissa Mounce Mithal (Human Capital at Baird), Jason Liu (CEO, SAVO Group), Ira Weiss (Founder, Hyde Park Venture Partners) and Sam Yagan (CEO, ShopRunner).

RHR International is a firm that specializes in Senior Leadership Development, combining management psychologists and consultants who help senior executives transform themselves and their organizations, by translating insights into practical and strategic solutions that accelerate overall growth. Senior Partner Grant Levitan has a Ph.D. in learning, motivation and clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his consulting centers around the opportunities associated with growth, globalization and leadership succession. The IVCA interviewed Dr. Levitan on the upcoming Educational Luncheon.

IVCA: With the economic climate so fast paced these days, how important is it to emphasize the ‘right team,’ depending on a firm or company's endeavors, and what factors for getting that team will you be discussing at the luncheon?

Grant Levitan: We will be discussing best practices – in assessing talent and business culture –as well as identifying the life cycle of the organization in order to best evaluate the kind of leadership needed to swiftly take it to the next stage.

IVCA: You’ve gathered a diverse panel. What expertise will they bring to the discussion that you expect from their experience?

Levitan: These panelists are going to share their success stories – and failures – regarding due diligence and what happens when you inherit a team that doesn't measure up to their talent culture or chemistry dimensions... and what to do about it.

IVCA: RHR International is a global firm who helps organizations transform themselves. What have you and the firm understood about true leadership, and discovering it, in your years of this type of service?

Levitan: At the end of the day true leadership is centered around purpose, vision and the ability to rally people around them... so that they are leading change from the top down and into their own functions.

IVCA: Finally, since finding the right team is a global concern for all firms, companies and organizations, what message do you want attendees of the luncheon to take back with them after the event?

Levitan: There are many ways we fool ourselves when buying a company or hiring people. There is a lot of pressure to bring on good people and bring them up to speed quickly or to close a deal, so there is a tendency to spend less time and energy evaluating, and more time and energy ‘selling.’ Slowing down the process at the evaluation stage and sharpening your analytics allows you to accelerate more quickly when the deal is closed, and when your new team is on board.
