2008 IVCA Legislator Meeting Series Successfully Concludes With Sen. Don Harmon Lunch

December 17, 2008

CHICAGO - “ Illinois Sen. Don Harmon (D-District 39) joined 16 IVCA members on Dec. 15, 2008 for a wide-ranging luncheon discussion that included prospects for key IVCA legislative issues, leadership changes in Springfield, Ill. and what they may mean for our legislative agenda as well as various scenarios regarding the governor leaving office.

IVCA-PAC began the 2008 series with lunch with Sen. Harmon in Jan. 2008. Given his knowledge of and support for our industry along with his emerging leadership in the Senate, we thought it appropriate to close the series on Monday with another visit with the senator.

Harmon was upbeat and optimistic about changes in Springfield in 2009, greater cooperation between the House and Senate, continued work on improving the business climate in the state (including for private equity and venture capital) and greater efforts to strengthen ethics in politics in Illinois by increased transparency and stronger reporting.

The 2009 IVCA Legislator Meeting Series will kick off with two lunches with the two Senate leaders (Senate president-elect John Cullerton and new Senate Republican leader Christine Radogno) in the first quarter of 2009.

These small IVCA-PAC luncheons feature a key legislator and IVCA members engaged in an open dialogue on issues that concern the VC and private equity communities. We also learn a great deal about the concerns and direction of Illinois government. If you have an interest in attending any of these meetings, please let Maura O'Hara know.
