Operating Platform Intern - Jump Capital

The Role

Jump Capital is looking for an entrepreneurial-minded intern to join our operating platform. Jump’s operating team works with portfolio companies to accelerate their growth and position them for long-term successes. We’re a group of operators ourselves and closely partner with founders in four core areas: talent, go-to-market, strategic finance and corporate development.

The internship will be primarily focused on projects that further extend the scalability and relevance of the platform offering. However, there will likely be opportunities to directly engage with and support portfolio company projects. Our internships also have visibility to all aspects of investing activities, from ideation in markets to our investment process and post-investment engagement.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a Venture Capital Investment Analyst to join our team. This role is an invaluable opportunity to become immersed in the digital health ecosystem and various aspects of early-stage venture capital investing. The Analyst will gain exposure to key areas of investing including deal evaluation, deal execution, market analysis, partner meetings, strategic limited partner interaction, and portfolio company support. Vice President, 50 South Capital - Private Equity, Buyout Funds & Co-investments

JOB DESCRIPTION:

50 South Capital is the rapidly-growing alternative investment arm of Northern Trust, with over $10.0 billion in assets. The private equity group makes primary fund investments, direct co-investments, and secondary investments in the buyout, venture capital and private credit sectors. Geographically, the group has a broad coverage, investing in the US, Europe, and Asia. 50 South Capital is seeking to add a professional in their Chicago headquarters to be part of a 17 person investment team primarily to source, review, analyze, and close investments in US and European buyout funds. In addition, this individual would be responsible for sourcing, vetting and closing direct co-investment opportunities, and to a lesser extent, secondary transactions. In addition, this individual would be responsible for assisting in fundraising efforts, portfolio monitoring, and other special projects.

Northern Trust is one of the world’s largest asset management firms, with over $1.1 trillion in assets under management. The firm has 65 offices across the U.S. and 20 international locations. To-date, 50 South Capital has raised the majority of its funds from its existing client base, but also raises capital from investors outside of the organization. Zebra Ventures is responsible for accelerating sustainable bottom line growth for Zebra through investments in new technologies, new businesses and new talent. The high-impact team makes investments in high tech start-ups that are relevant to our various businesses.
The Senior Analyst will be involved in all aspects of corporate venture capital investing including deal sourcing, evaluation, execution, and management. Additionally, responsibilities include landscape research, theme development, company prospecting, term sheet drafting, financial modeling, due diligence, negotiation, and preparation of investment committee materials.

IMD Guest House Mission & Description

IMD Guest House builds community and healing by providing comfortable, affordable accommodation for patients and their families throughout their treatment

·         47 fully furnished apartments, located at corner of Polk & Damen

·         The only organization in the Chicago area that supports patients of any age, receiving out-patient or inpatient treatment

·         About 50% of our service supports low-income families, and we never turn families away for lack of funds

·         Length of stay is determined by medical referral, no pre-sent limits

·         Key patient populations: Cancer patients, organ transplant patients, parents of neonatal ICU patients, veterans receiving treatment for PTSD, and more

·         In 2018, we supported 706 patients and provides 12,306 nights of service.

·         Annual Budget $1.7 million

Board Responsibilities

·         Serve as an ambassador for IMD Guest House who understands and interprets its work to the community.

·         Attend regularly 5-6 scheduled Board meetings per year, in person or via telephone. 

·         Participate actively in at least one board standing committee, attend its meetings, lend judgment to its deliberations and be active in its work.

·         Make a generous personal financial contribution ($250 Minimum) annually, each according to his/her own means, and will be responsible for giving or getting $750 annually. 

·         Participate in at least one of the fund raising activities organized by the development department each year.

·         Prepare for each Board meeting by studying all appropriate reports and being prepared to discuss current activities of committees to which they are assigned.

·         Assist in recruiting prospective new volunteers, Board members and agency supporters in the community.
