Angela Chi, a senior from University of Illinois - “ Chicago has been selected to intern at Thoma Bravo.  Angela will receive a degree in Finance in December, 2009.

This is the third year that Thoma Bravo has participated in the program and the first year for Prairie Capital.  IVCA is grateful to these firms for their support!

Winners of the  Illinois Venture Capital Association (IVCA) internship & scholarship are getting an inside glimpse this summer into some of the most prestigious capital and private equity firms in the country.  The IVCA Scholar Program awards scholarships valued at $15,000 per student, with $5,000 toward general tuition fees and a 10-week summer internship at a Chicago-area venture capital or private equity firm with  $10,000 in compensation.

The IVCA Scholar program was established 2007 to interest minority students in a venture capital or private equity career.  The scholarship is unique in that it's awarded to undergraduate students, giving them an opportunity to rub elbows with some powerful principals and partners in the industry.  IVCA Scholars remain part of the IVCA community and are encouraged to attend events and network with our members beyond the summer internship.

IVCA Scholars work closely with Dan O'Connell from The Golder Center at University of Illinois-Urbana throughout the summer.  Dan acts as mentor and support as the students work through the summer.  The students also participate weekly in Toastmasters International an organization committed to helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience.

IVCA has scheduled informational meetings for the Scholars with VC/PE service providers throughout the summer.  The students this year will meet with a fund of funds, a lender, an investment bank, a transaction advisory firm and a law firm.  If any IVCA members would like to host an informational session or include them in an already scheduled event, please call Maura O'Hara to schedule.
